Krampus Activity

The Krampus Activity brings one of the more unusual traditions of Alpine folklore to the German-American Society. Krampus, the legendary horned companion of St. Nicholas, has been part of Christmas-season traditions in regions of Germany and Austria for centuries, providing a decidedly darker counterpart to St. Nicholas.

Through costumes, appearances, and seasonal events, participants help share the history and folklore surrounding Krampus while adding a memorable twist to the Society’s holiday celebrations. It’s a unique opportunity for members interested in Germanic folklore, costuming, performance, and keeping old-world traditions alive.
