There are numerous benefits to membership in the German-American Society. If any one member of the family belongs to the German-American Society, membership benefits are available for all family members. If a parent has a membership, then both parents can choose to participate actively in any of the many suborganizations, including folk dancing, ballroom dancing, singing, and casual socializing. Further, the younger children (5 and up) can participate in Gymnastics instruction and/or German language instruction at a minimal cost. Older children may be eligible to travel to Germany on a club sponsored exchange at a surprisingly low cost. Special events for the children are an important feature of the club. The club hosts an Easter Egg Hunt for children each year, with games and prizes. And a visit from the Easter Bunny. In June, members are invited to participate in a family picnic at the club at no cost. In December, there is a Christmas Party for the children with holiday treats and a visit from Saint Nick. There is no charge for this event, open only to members of the club. At this and other events during the year the club's own Marionette troup puts on programs for the children. In addition, there are the many opportunities through the year to participate in activities open to the general public: German Day, Oktoberfest, and Christmas in Germany. Family Fun Nights: there are parties at the club which are designed to better meet the needs of families with children. Dinners are served buffet style in a casual atmosphere. Dress is informal. Another benefit is the monthly newsletter, which describes forthcoming events and reports on the activities of the sub-organizations. All social members are encouraged to participate in the many activities of the club.
